We are pleased to be
handling the property of Shirley Bunnell McCullom, the last remaining
heir to the Charles Bunnell estate. This project consists of over 1,000
items from his collection.
The heirs brought together the joint collaboration of The Art Bank of
Colorado Springs and Best of the West Auctions. This joint venture has
combined the passion for Colorado art of both companies and has
facilitated the expertise and manpower to offer one of Colorado
Springs’ most significant collections, representing the work of over
200 artists. The vast range of this collection spans his entire career
beginning with his very first oil painting, (inscribed on the back in
Bunnell’s own hand ”my first oil painting”), to some of his last
works. We will be selling this collection at a minimum of four
auctions.
Charles Bunnell is arguably one of Colorado’s most important artists
and instructors. Throughout his career, he was constantly exploring new
ideas and ways to interpret his world artistically. From his realistic
landscapes to his impressionistic paintings, modernism and cubism, his
black and blue period, abstract expressionism and abstraction, Bunnell
attained stature in a wide range of the art of his era.
One of the more interesting segments of this collection are the
portraits of Charles Bunnell. Over 50 artists drew or painted Bunnell,
over his lifetime, each capturing a unique and fascinating view of his
persona. We hope to present these works at a public showing prior to
their ultimate sale.
Please continue to watch our website for announcements of future
opportunities for the collector of investment quality Colorado art.
